What's an acceptable size and format for uploading images and profile pictures?
Adding/Editing your Profile Picture
When you add or edit your profile picture, for the best result, we recommend:
- You use a square image
- in the region of 400x400px to 600x600px
- JPEG
- You leave some padding between the top of your head and the top of the image
Please refer to this image:
- The red lines represent a square image. When you upload a square image only the corners will be cropped out.
- The orange lines represent a landscape image. When you upload a landscape image, the height will be 'fixed' but either end will be cropped off.
- The green lines represent a portrait image. When you upload a portrait image, the width will be 'fixed' but the top and bottom will be cropped off.
Adding Images to the Feed
Images uploaded to the feed will have a fixed width. This means the height of the image will vary depending on whether it's a landscape, portrait or square image. The image will therefore not be cropped. For the best display, we recommend:
- Landscape images
- in the region of 900x300px to 1200x800px
- JPEG
- Around 10-15MB maximum (larger files will take longer to upload/download)
- Other acceptable files include: jpg, png, jpeg, pdf, mp4, ogv, webm, ppt, pptx, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, odt, odp, ods
Please also be aware that some documents (for example, doc, docx or ppt) can be downloaded and edited. Unless this is the intention of the document, we recommend that you upload PDFs, where possible.
